Season Memory #5: The Races Began

It was a trying offseason with the fans of Philadelphia questioning the loss of Cliff Lee, 3rd base decisions, and somewhere something happened to that McNabb guy. Despite the concerns and emotions throughout the city it was made known that Roy Halladay was ours, and that this club had big plans with the right-hander. To back him up we brought in our old friend Placido Polanco and cut loose with a lackluster bench.

There was everything to lose for these guys. "Can Polanco still play third?" "Should we have kept our postseason hero?" Ha. Roy Halladay started our season with a 7 inning gem of 88 pitches and 9 strikeouts, adding a hit from the plate to support his own cause. Placido Polanco became the unsung hero crushing a grand slam over left field. By the end of the night he went 3-5 and 6 RBI's supporting an 11-1 win.

Charlie Manuel's team continued the dominance for their first 10 games sporting an 8-2 record scoring a total of 77 runs. Batting averages never felt like they'd drop below .300, RBI's never seemed to stop pouring in. Polanco was on pace to bat-in over 1600 RBI's by the end of the season.

The team started silencing the doubters and let everyone know they had big plans inside the new and improved clubhouse.
